Health Coaching

I’m on your team to help you unlock peak health and performance.  Together, we’ll work on creating lasting behavior change, build optimism and resilience, and overcome limiting beliefs.

I will help you find your best and show you how to excel at doing hard things.   From maximizing your energy and level of fulfillment, to the mental side of performance, to developing a mindfulness practice, to optimizing your diet, or even to stop beating yourself up, I’m here to help.

I am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC),  formally trained through Vanderbilt University’s Integrative Medicine Program, and a World Champion Professional Athlete. I specialize in mental performance, mindset, and plant-based nutrition. Health goes beyond the plate and includes several foundational elements. Intellectual health, spiritual health, emotional health, and physical health are all considered in my coaching practice.

I work with high achievers, executives, business people, athletes, and anyone looking to unlock their potential and find more joy in the process.  My unique experience as a World Champion, as an entrepreneur myself, and the in-depth training I’ve received from experts across many categories gives me a unique perspective. I’ve not only studied how to help people grow and thrive, but I’ve had to face challenges myself in the arena at the top of the world’s stage in my sport.

WHAT DOES A HEALTH COACH DO?

Health coaches use a client-centered approach to working with people. They act as partners and facilitators, supporting their clients in taking action, creating plans, and achieving goals based on the clients’ ideas, interests, and experiences. I use a values and strengths-based approach to my coaching that focus on action-oriented behavior change.

  • Help people understand their motivation behind a goal as well as connect with their intrinsic motivation
  • Uncover limiting beliefs, challenges, and blind spots that could be preventing lasting change.
  • Empower people to have agency and autonomy on their peak performance and health journey
  • Provide accountability and support
  • Help people have a deeper understanding of their strengths and values, and how it pertains to achieving goals
  • Discuss the different areas of foundational health and performance, and how they are related
  • How to set process-oriented goals and stick to them

WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT SONYA

I first became a fan of Sonya Looney’s wonderful podcast, and then worked with her on a one-on-one basis as a coach. She is incredibly knowledgeable and committed not only to her own success but also to the success of her clients. Sonya is an authentic, talented coach who helped me map out the next phase of my health journey. She is fun to work with and brings her keen interest in high performance to every conversation.

Sonya brought me hyper motivation and focus on creating new healthy habits. The habits she helped me put in place have become a lasting part of my daily routine. Sonya was able to help me articulate my values and goals in ways even I had a hard time putting words to. This skill of hers helped me gain insight into where I wanted to push myself to grow.

How People Benefit From Working With a Health Coach

Often, people work with a health coach to improve one area of their life and end up unlocking broader positive change.  They report a greater sense of awareness and more energy to make lasting changes in other areas and challenges.  Many people benefit from working with a health coach by seeing a shift in their mindset that enables them the clarity to positively affect their relationships, self-belief, and performance.

People who have worked with me as a health coach also report:

  • less burnout and overwhelm
  • better sleep and physical health
  • better productivity and creativity
  • better mindfulness and emotional intelligence
  • ability to work through conflict and take on challenges
  • development of a growth mindset
  • awareness of how to eat healthy and stick to it

How long does a health coaching relationship last?
I typically work with clients for 3-6 months on a weekly or biweekly basis. I also offer executive and corporate workplace health coaching.  Clients also continue working with me after the initial period for months to years!

Environment
The environments we find ourselves in, whether home, office, or landscape, have the ability to impact our overall wellbeing. As many of us know, environments can create or reduce stress. Light, air, sound, space, and color all have the ability to impact our health.

Sleep is the foundation of health. It increases focus, regulates the immune system, improves memory, helps you maintain a healthy weight, and regulates mood.

Your awareness of how your mind, body, and emotions interact. Research confirms that not only do our mind and emotions affect our physiology, but our body can also impact our mind and emotions. Use of practices such as guided imagery, psychotherapy or counseling, meditation, prayer, breath practices, and progressive muscle relaxation are all examples of how we can harness the power of the mind and the emotions to positively impact our body.
Spirit & Soul
