The FJ was about to burst with camping and riding gear as we departed for Moab on Friday morning.

We barely got Yuki in the car, and we headed about 6 hours due West. After setting up camp, and a potty break (yes, this was actually the only toilet in the campground. AWESOME and hilarious!)

So you can look at the sky when you poop.

No door… I think this should be Caution tape instead. That’d be hilarious.

… we headed just across the street from our campsite to ride Moab’s well-known Slickrock Trail. It’s not my favorite, but one you gotta do every now and then.

and then it was snack time….

followed by mapping out the route for Day 2. It’s kind of ridiculous that none of us have a GPS for riding…

On Saturday, after a delightful breakfast of pancakes and eggs, we headed up the Sand Flats Road to the very top of the Porcupine Rim Trail (LPS, then it turns into Porcupine).

I always get dropped on the road riding with Jeff and Yuki. Singletrack is another story though!

I have never ridden Porcupine, and I thought it was a super fun, challenging descent. No wonder people shuttle it with 5-7 inch travel bikes!! One of my new favorite Moab trails…

Big drop offs… most of which I rode, but some that I didn’t!

A food break at the river. Junko (Yuki’s gf) made us some rice balls, and they were a treat!

Then it was off to Amasa Back, and then back up the Sand Flats road to camp.

Moab Day 2
Yuki always makes me want to be a better technical rider. I think I am doing alright until I see the things he does… the stuff that I dismount and walk down!

7 hours and about 55 miles later, we got back to camp. Ride time was actually a little over 5 hours

Then it was time to cook some dinner.

And hang out by the fire!

Day 3 was so epic (9 hours…) that it will get its own post… stay tuned!
