Return to Yak Attack: 2013

By December 7, 2012March 22nd, 20173 Comments

I’m in the midst of trying to get my race schedule together for next year. My planning process involves choosing the big races, getting them locked down and filling in around them. So far, I have my early season planned out.

The biggest coup will be the Yak Attack!! For those of you that just joined me, I raced the Yak Attack last year for the first time. It’s a 10 day stage race from Kathmandu across the Annapurnas in Nepal- a race across the Himalaya! I won the race and was the first woman to ever complete the full route. It was not without difficulty with some drama which you can read about here on a day by day account if you’re interested.

It was the most amazing thing I have ever done, and I am really really excited to go back. It means another winter of dedicated and disciplined training in the cold. I know what discomforts and challenges are ahead of me with the experience of last year. I also know how amazing it is and how it feels to be riding a trail at 15,000′ in a valley with 22,000’+ glaciers and peaks around me in a place not accessible by vehicle. I’m ready to take on the race again and become the first North American to complete it twice. I want to set a new record time with my course knowledge…and maybe even break 30 hours. I’m ready for the challenge!

Yikes! I just watched Henri Lesewitzs’ movie of the Yak Attack. I lived in Germany for a couple of years back in the early 70’s (courtesy of Uncle Sam) so I was able to understand enough of the video to say… Yikes! Epic!
You go girl, I’ll be watching every post this year. Gutes Glück und Rennen Stark… Good Luck and Race Hard.
