I am back and have the first race of 2014 in the books! I’ve been trying to get down to this race the last 3 years, and thanks to Michael David Winery and DeFeet, I was able to make the trip.
The Andes were beautiful. My main surprise was the rain forest flora. It reminded me of the coastal mountains of British Columbia. I was hoping to escape to summer, but the race had record rainfall, and the worst rain any of us had ever seen. It didn’t stop for a second during a 48 hour time period causing a stage cancellation, and very unfortunate times for those of us sleeping in leaky tents. It was a lesson in making the most of a situation, and that we did. It culminated with a congo line dance part at 10 AM in the food tent.
We did get the sun, the mountain views, diverse riding, new friends, and a day in Pucon. Full recap coming soon!!
Welcome Home Sonya – and congratulations!
